Submitted by Kostas -- Oct 17, Beta-testing went pretty well and now it's time to switch to the new version. I want to thank again all the people who helped me with the testing! Now, to highlight some of the changes and reasons behind them:
And this is triply shameful: Fortunately, the director of this play Tom Mitchell is an expert. I do, and Williams is absolutely a genius. He wrote compelling stories and created broken characters that have depth, certainly. But the themes that Williams employs lean toward topics and personalities that annoy me: Battle of Angels covers much of the familiar territory discussed above.
Tony Ryan Is working as a stripper honestly empowering? I hated the popular belief that sex workers were oppressed and without agency, victims in need of rescuing. When I started stripping in the back bar of a Christchurch brothel at 18, I was in control of my decision to get nude — or so I thought. An arts undergraduate, I had no pressing need for money, the reason usually cited for entry into the sex industry — an umbrella term that encompasses stripping, web-camming, escorting, prostitution and porn. My parents paid my rent, my Kentucky Fried Chicken and my living expenses.
And that is exactly what the acclaimed Vancouver playwright, actor and theatre director plans to do with his latest directorial project: After church elders spot her bathing nude in a creek behind her house, she becomes the victim of a pernicious crusade led by morally indignant townsfolk. For one thing, the drama will unfold under the gaze of male and female angels who, at times, appear entirely nude. And if they walk out, it is even better because it will tell us that it still exists today. And the minimal- ist set will feature a massive blue tree stripped of all leaves.
